Cabernet Sauvignon, Texas High Plains, Reserve, 2024
Blend: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon (Clone 47), 3% Merlot
Sourced exclusively from Canted County Vineyard in the Texas High Plains, our 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve reflects a deliberate Old World approach to one of the world's great grape varieties. A 20% saignée was performed prior to fermentation to naturally concentrate the fruit, followed by an extended 27-day maceration on the skins to extract depth, structure, and complexity. The wine was matured in French oak,70% of which was new, resulting in a Cabernet of remarkable balance and longevity.
Clone 47 Cabernet Sauvignon, originally selected from Bordeaux, is prized for producing deeply colored wines with concentrated cassis fruit, refined tannins, and exceptional aging potential. A small addition of Merlot rounds the blend, lending subtle suppleness while allowing Cabernet Sauvignon to remain the unmistakable focus.
The nose opens with notes of cassis, blackberry, and brambly black fruit layered over graphite, cedar, forest floor, tobacco leaf, and dried herbs. Beneath the generous fruit lies a distinctly earthy core that defines the wine's Old World inspiration.
The palate is powerful yet restrained, with concentrated dark fruit wrapped around savory mineral and earthy notes. Firm, finely woven tannins frame a rich, expansive mid-palate, while vibrant acidity provides freshness and precision. Integrated French oak contributes subtle notes of cocoa, vanilla, and baking spice, leading to a long, structured finish that promises graceful evolution for years to come.
